Scratch It

Learn Photography from Scratch with us & have fun

This is the second official assignment ;)
Nr. 1 was / is still "White balance".

Macro shots or so called "Close-ups" are either photos of tiny objects and insects or parts of a bigger picture, like a door knob or a rusty nail in a door.
You get the idea.

Many Point & Shoot cameras have a little button for Macro shots, best check out your manual if you haven't found that yet.
Other cameras have the option to attach a macro lens.
My little Casio for example had both options.

Now, go, check your manual, shoot a wee bit, look online for some more Info & let's gather it all here.

I've already started a little list with Macro Tips. Feel free to add your tips there as well :)

And here's something I did during the summer to give you some ideas.

You don't always have to get all that close, depending on your camera you will loose some quality when zooming too much as well. Try cropping the big picture instead. You might be surprised.

I've used my Nikon D300 and a Nikkor VR 18-200mm for this shot. I'm getting the hang of it a bit better by now.
Which leads me to the point again: Don't get frustrated too easy, keep shooting, trying and learning.

Up front I've made one big mistake, I didn't use a tripod, like I suggested in the tip section here. I guess the shot could be crystal clear even after major cropping, if I had done that.

This is the shot I took with full zoom length and getting as close as possible. I still have to get the hang of focusing and framing correctly with this (for me) big Baby, but like mentioned before, I'll keep trying ;)

This is the shot after serious cropping. Just to show you what you can get out of a shot with small toys on your computer.

Here's a list with free editing programs, in case you don't have any yet.

Now go, shhhh, away from the computer and SHOOT :)
Have fun!

Edit to say:

Please share your experiences while shooting & while looking at the pics later on your computer.
Let us know if you want any suggestions or tips as well.

And please, share your knowledge with us too :)
